Hotels — Kitchen Extract Cleaning in Hertfordshire
TR19 extract cleaning quotes for hotels across Hertfordshire, North London, Luton, Bedford and Harlow.
Hotel kitchens rarely stop. Breakfast, lunch, room service, dinner and banqueting can keep the extract running for most of the day, and one building may have several kitchens on separate ducts. We arrange TR19 extract cleaning quotes for hotels across Hertfordshire, North London, Luton, Bedford and Harlow. An independent specialist provider carries out the clean and issues the certificate.
For a hotel the certificate matters twice over. Guests sleep in the building, and insurers and fire safety auditors will want evidence that the system was cleaned to a recognised standard.
Which TR19 frequency band hotels fall into
TR19 Grease sets minimum intervals by daily cooking hours: every three months for 12 to 16 hours, every six months for 6 to 12 hours and every twelve months for 2 to 6 hours. A hotel cooking from breakfast through to dinner is often in the heavy band and needs a quarterly clean. A smaller hotel serving breakfast and a short evening menu may be six-monthly. Separate kitchens on separate ducts can run on different intervals, and the provider's grease readings settle it. The TR19 compliance guide has the detail.
Fire safety, sleeping guests and insurance
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to assess and reduce fire risk, and grease in the extract belongs in the hotel's fire risk assessment. London Fire Brigade guidance explains that once grease in a duct ignites, fire can travel fast along the ductwork and reach the building's fabric and voids at points along the route. For premises with sleeping accommodation or complicated layouts, Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service recommends having the assessment done by a professional fire risk assessor. BESA adds that insurers can refuse a claim where poor maintenance contributed to a fire.
What a full clean covers
The provider cleans the canopy and filters and the full ductwork from each canopy to the discharge. That includes risers and horizontal runs above ceilings, with access panels fitted where needed, and the extract fan. Grease-depth readings are taken before and after, and the certificate comes with before-and-after photographs. If nobody has a drawing of the duct route, start with an inspection report.
Working around guests and events
Cleans can be booked overnight or in the gap between breakfast and lunch, with noise and access planned around guest floors. Many hotels here run to an events diary. The Grove, a resort hotel near Watford with 214 rooms and 16 meeting and event spaces, hosted the NATO leaders' meeting in December 2019. Visitor numbers are high too. The Studio Tour at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden has been open since 2012 and draws more than 6,000 visitors a day at peak times, and London Luton Airport handled more than 16.5 million passengers in 2018, a record for the airport. Tell us your fixed events and the provider will plan around them.
Hotel groups and multi-site operators
If you run several hotels, or one hotel with separate restaurant and banqueting kitchens, we can arrange one quote covering every system. Each system gets its own interval and its own certificate. Inns have a long history here. The Great Bed of Ware, made around 1590, was first kept at the White Hart Inn in Ware and is mentioned in Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. Where the duct route through an older building is unknown, ask for an inspection first. The cost guide explains how duct length, access and the number of fans affect the price.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should a hotel kitchen extract be cleaned?
A hotel cooking from breakfast to dinner is often in TR19's heavy band of 12 to 16 hours a day, which means at least every three months. Smaller hotels with shorter hours may be six-monthly. Grease readings confirm the right interval.
We have more than one kitchen. Do they all need cleaning at once?
No. Each system can run on its own interval, and the provider issues a certificate for each one.
Will the clean disturb guests?
The provider plans noise and access around guest floors, and cleans can be booked overnight or between services.
Which fire and rescue service covers our hotel?
Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service covers the county from 29 fire stations, with its headquarters in Hertford. Hotels in Enfield, Barnet and Haringey fall to the London Fire Brigade, those in Luton and Bedford to Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, and those in Harlow to Essex County Fire and Rescue Service.
Do you carry out the cleaning?
No. We arrange TR19 extract cleaning quotes and pass your enquiry to an independent specialist provider, who does the work and issues the certificate.
